National Grid Winter Outlook Report

Alkane Energy Plc notes the findings of National Grid's Winter Outlook report published this morning, including a reduction in spare capacity in the UK electricity market to just 5 per cent for the coming winter period.

This level of spare capacity is the tightest seen in the UK for over a decade and increases the risk of power cuts. Alkane is supporting National Grid's STOR and Demand Side Balancing Reserve programmes.

Alkane has a UK wide portfolio of 27 embedded power plants across the UK providing both base load and peaking plant. We are expecting to see company record levels of plant available for the coming winter with up to 100MW running in the winter evenings. In addition we have a further 25MW of standby generation on long-term contract to the National Grid.

Neil O'Brien, Alkane's CEO, commented:

"The Alkane team has been working hard to have our generators on-line and ready for the winter. We are delighted with progress on the programmes and look forward to working with National Grid."
