COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — American Electric Power Co. (AEP) on Monday reported fourth-quarter profit of $336.2 million.

On a per-share basis, the Columbus, Ohio-based company said it had profit of 64 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.23 per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.27 per share.

The utility posted revenue of $4.6 billion in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.22 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.21 billion, or $4.26 per share. Revenue was reported as $19 billion.

AEP expects full-year earnings in the range of $5.53 to $5.73 per share.

AEP shares have decreased roughly 1% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has increased slightly more than 6%. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $80.77, a decline of 11% in the last 12 months.
