Energy Efficiency Program

American Woodmark wishes to improve energy efficiency in its operations. For years, several of our plants have used bio-mass (wood dust and scraps from our manufacturing processes) to generate building and process heat, reducing our use of natural gas and reducing waste that is landfilled. We have invested in improving the efficiency of our air compressors at various sites to reduce energy consumption as well. One of our facilities has been partially powered by an on-site solar array since early 2021. In 2022, we accelerated our efforts of upgrading to LED lighting that include occupancy sensors in many of our facilities. This commitment will exceed $1 million for the 2023 fiscal year, saving nearly 9 million kWh annually.

Sources of Electricity

AWC's North American manufacturing operations' electrical needs in 2022 were sourced primarily from the grid (98.4%) with the remainder coming from solar generation on-site at one of our facilities (1.6%.) Our utility providers generate electricity using a variety of means including renewable and non-renewable sources. Based upon available U.S. EPA data* the sources for this electricity from the various grid sections are generated by approximately 59% non-renewable, 17% renewable, and 24% nuclear sources.
