Balfour Beatty has today featured in New Civil Engineer highlighting the technical challenges and benefits of the A63 Castle Street project, alongside National Highways.

Situated between Leeds and Kingston Upon Hull, work on the A63 major project first began in 2020. Balfour Beatty's experts go into detail about the works carried out to date, including a range of ground improvements that were undertaken to enable the safe excavation of the 400m long underpass at Mytongate junction.

Speaking about the project and the challenging ground conditions, Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering Technical Director Mark Pennington said: "We have two challenges - to manage the ground water and to manage the uplift…the results were enlightening."
