BASF has announced negotiations with employees at its Harjavalta plant in Finland.

The decision to enter into negotiations with employees was taken in view of the length of the authorization procedure, which is leading to an unpredictable timetable for obtaining a final permit.

In 2020, BASF received the first permit from the competent authorities after a thorough environmental impact assessment. Since then, we have had a difficult journey with several rounds of permits granted, appealed and, unfortunately, not maintained', said Tomi Oja, Managing Director of BASF Battery Materials Finland Oy.

As a result, BASF is forced to consider indefinite layoffs, which could impact all employees at the Harjavalta site.
