BMC Software's (NASDAQ:BMC) chairman and CEO Robert "Bob" Beauchamp was honored recently as a transformational chief executive, receiving the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® 2012 Award for the Gulf Coast Region.

The award was presented at a gala on June 21, 2012. Winners were selected from more than seventy nominations representing South Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

"The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award has deep significance because it spotlights innovation, risk taking, and hard work which are foundational elements of the global economy that delivers prosperity and improved quality of life to the world," Beauchamp said. "I want to thank BMC's thousands of remarkable employees, including our founders and past employees, who played important roles in building and transforming BMC over the past 32 years."

Named CEO in 2001, Beauchamp led BMC's highly successful transformation from a mainframe tools vendor to the company that delivers the industry's most strategic enterprise management and automation solutions, enabling customers to optimize IT and prove their business value.

Beauchamp is known across the globe for exemplifying exceptionally high standards in every aspect of his personal and professional life. Under his leadership, BMC's unwavering focus on maintaining personal and organizational integrity -- "doing things right" -- coupled with an extraordinary cultural work ethic has helped establish the company as both a significant innovator and a leader in the IT industry.

Beauchamp is now eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 Award. The national awards are given to 10 winners in several categories and industries. The winners are announced at the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year Overall Award gala in Palm Desert, Calif., on November 17, 2012. This gala is the culminating event of the Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum, the nation's most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies. One winner from the national award recipients is selected to represent the U.S. in the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Awards held in Monte Carlo alongside winners from over 50 countries.
