Boeing announced on Tuesday that it plans to purchase some 9.4 million gallons (more than 35,000 metric tons) of sustainable fuel (SAF) this year, a figure that is 60% higher than in 2023.

The aircraft manufacturer says that this acquisition - its largest to date in this field - will enable it to reduce its carbon emissions by powering, in particular, its Boeing ecoDemonstrator flight test program.

This eco-fuel is to be made up of 30% biomass, such as fats and oils, and 70% conventional kerosene, explains Boeing in a press release.

The group plans to call on Epic Fuels, a subsidiary of Signature Aviation, Neste and Avfuel to source its supplies.

It estimates that SAF currently accounts for 20% of its fuel consumption.
