Sustainable initiative: creation of a participative vegetable garden in Burkina Faso

In 2022, SIS Burkina Faso, a subsidiary of CIS in Burkina Faso, supported the creation of a participative vegetable garden that supplies a site with 300 residents with fresh, organic vegetables.

Aware of its footprint and its responsibilities, the CIS Group is committed to a corporate social responsibility approach and is implementing numerous concrete actions to reduce its impact on the environment.

In this context, the SIS Burkina Faso teams have been working since 2022 to create a vegetable garden in the Boungou region.

The vegetable garden has an area of 2 hectares with the installation of a watering point and a watering system to grow many varieties of fruits, vegetables and condiments adapted to the climate and the quality of the soil of the region such as: eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, watermelons, melons, okra, spinach, lettuce, bouroumbourou, sorrel, parsley, celery, coriander, basil, carrots, zucchinis, cucumbers, corn.

In the interest of sustainable quality, the local production of vegetables reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and therefore the overall carbon footprint, associated with the transportation of food over long distances. Moreover, in this vegetable garden, vegetable waste is used as natural fertilizer.

Freshness of vegetables

The vegetables grown locally on our client's site of operation are harvested when they are ripe by the SIS Burkina Faso teams and are therefore a guarantee of freshness and eco-responsible supply. No loss or degradation of vegetables, delivery at harvest, they taste better and keep their nutrients longer.

Quality of produce

By growing vegetables locally, SIS Burkina Faso controls the quality of its production, which it wants to be organic and free of harmful pesticides, in order to provide healthy and safe food to its residents to the great satisfaction of its client.

Diversity of crops

The cultivation of vegetables locally also allows for the production of a wide variety of vegetables in complete autonomy, without supply difficulties, thus diversifying the diet of residents and promoting a healthy and balanced diet.
