Clarksons hires industry heavy-weight to further strengthen green transition service offering

08/05/23

We are delighted to announce that industry veteran Johan Tutturen will be joining Clarksons Green Transition team as a Senior Technical Adviser, with a key focus on CO2. The appointment is a testament to the scale of the challenge of decarbonising shipping, and the level of expertise required to advise our client base on the complexities at hand.

Johan has more than 30 years of experience in the maritime oil and gas industry - an established career holding several senior positions within DNV including Country Manager for DNV GL Japan, Head of the new-building department at DNV's Head Office in Oslo, Global Business Director for LNG carriers and Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs) and most recently leading the Special Projects Gas desk, with particular focus on the shipping of hydrogen and CO2.

Established in 2020, the Green Transition team at Clarksons provides decarbonisation strategies, guidance on operational emissions reduction, and insight to inform fleet renewal, collaborating closely with broking divisions to execute. As a result of this appointment, Clarksons increases its depth of advisory services by providing greater technical insight on the complexity of transporting CO2, and the use of alternative fuels such as Ammonia and Hydrogen. Clarksons will now be able to provide a richer and more informed end-to-end service of strategy, technical insight, asset broking, and chartering across breadth of the gas market.

Head of the Green Transition team, Kenneth Tveter says "The industry is in a remarkably interesting phase right now. Our clients are facing challenges on many fronts: We are in the middle of an energy crisis, whilst needing to decarbonise, needing to understand the new regulation and emerging ship technology. Meanwhile, access to capital is limited but societal expectations are growing. There is a danger that these complexities could stagnate the industry's progress towards lowering emissions. Our role is to help clients navigate this pathway successfully, mitigate risk, help them take advantage of the opportunities, and in doing so minimise the impact of shipping on the environment. It is a privilege to have Johan within the team to add to the expertise that the group can provide to our clients during this transition."

Johan will join Clarksons on 1 June 2023 and will be based in the Oslo office. The investment in headcount demonstrates Clarksons' ambition to grow and our commitment to enabling global trade and leading positive change.
