Accepting applications for student projects focusing on energy science, technology and education

BALTIMORE (Aug. 19, 2013) - Constellation today kicked off its 2013 E2 Energy to Educate Grants program. Since its inception in 2010, the program has provided nearly $1.2 million in funding for student projects that have enhanced the understanding of energy-related science and technology issues for an estimated 66,000 students.

Students in grades six through 12 can apply for program grants up to $25,000; students in two- and four-year colleges can apply for up to $50,000. Applications are now being accepted, and the deadline for submissions is Oct. 1, 2013.

"Education and creativity are essential for developing tomorrow's emerging energy solutions," said Joseph Nigro, CEO of Constellation. "The goals of our Energy to Educate grants are to inspire students about the energy industry and help build the science, math and technology skills they need to be successful in any career."

In 2012, the program awarded more than $337,000 and reached nearly 14,000 students nationwide. The student projects included hands-on wind turbine design, electric vehicle competitions, renewable energy and energy efficiency analysis, and many other topics.

To qualify for an E2 grant, a project must be located in an area Constellation serves, be team-oriented and reach a minimum of 100 students. Projects involving students in grades six through 12 must include a minimum of three partners, including at least one that is governed by a board of directors and designated a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
