On the morning of March 23, the first 700TEU electric container ship (N997) of COSCO Shipping Development was successfully moved into the dry dock and proper staging was erected at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry in Yangzhou, which was witnessed by the owner, vessel inspector, maritime authority and shipyard.

Movement of ships into docks and erection of staging are important milestones for building of ships. Since commencement of building of the vessel, COSCO Shipping Development, Yangzhou CIMC Heavy Industry, CCS and other related parties have been promoting the development of the specifications of the pure electric river-sea ship, and overcome the technical and safety problems of the large-capacity containerized mobile power supply and large-scale power system through commissioning of power equipment. All parties reasonably used the site, scientifically planned the segmentation, refined the process and carefully carried out construction, laying a solid foundation to realize the smooth docking and erection of staging.

The 700TEU electric container ship is the world's first large pure battery-powered container ship for long-distance transportation. After it is built, this series of ships will be put into operation on the Yangtze River route, thus realizing the green upgrading of the golden waterway and providing central state-owned enterprises' experience and solutions for China's inland river and coastal shipping to reduce emissions.

In the future, COSCO Shipping Development will continue to bring into play the advantages of upstream and downstream cooperation in the industry chain, and lead the new trend of green, low-carbon and intelligent development of shipping industry, contributing its wisdom and force to fully implement the national strategy of "Dual Carbon" and build green zero-carbon shipping.
