Covivio announced on Monday the launch of a program designed to combat water wastage in its office buildings in France.

The real estate company says it has set itself the target of achieving an 80% rate of water-saving equipment (aerators and flow limiters, water-saving toilet flushes, sensor faucets) by the end of the year, compared with the current 65%.

The commercial real estate group also intends to increase the number of water recovery systems installed in its buildings by 20% by the end of 2024.

In parallel, Covivio aims to equip 100% of its buildings with processes or detection equipment to limit leaks.

It also plans to implement real-time monitoring of consumption, while raising awareness among building occupants of the issue of water wastage through the introduction of a charter on good water management and the right gestures to adopt.

While the average water consumption of an office building is 0.33 m3/m²/year, the water intensity of Covivio's portfolio fell by 38% between 2008 and 2022, to 0.26 m3/m²/year.

This new program aims to exceed the target set by the French government's water plan, which calls for a 10% reduction in water consumption by 2030.
