Cyan (NYSE: CYNI), a leading provider of SDN, NFV, and packet-optical solutions for network operators, was voted the winner of the Intel Network Builders Innovation Contest in the category of SDN/NFV.

The goal of the Intel Network Builders program is to make it easier to build, enhance, and operate SDN/NFV-based infrastructure, while lowering capital and operating expenditures. The winner for the contest's SDN/NFV category was selected based on three main judging categories - impact, implementation, and generalization. Cyan's Planet Orchestrate was named a winner for its ability to demonstrate NFV-Enabled Ethernet Services, which is the orchestration of virtual network functions (VNFs) in distributed data centers on top of Ethernet services in a multi-vendor wide area network.

Cyan is participating at the Intel Developer Forum, within the SDN/NFV pavilion, which is taking place September 9-11 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Attendees will have a chance to experience a number of SDN and NFV orchestration demonstrations using Planet Orchestrate, including:

  • NFV-Enabled Ethernet Services: A vCPE application in which vFirewall and vEncryption functions are seamlessly deployed on a carrier grade Ethernet service.
  • End-to-End vEPC Orchestration: Complete Ethernet and vEPC provisioning from the cell tower, through backhaul to the data center through a multi-vendor network of virtual and physical devices
  • Instant bandwidth provisioning over a multi-vendor network
