With the entire mobility sector going through a fundamental transition from fossil fuel to electric, the demand for O-rings across the world is increasing at a rapid rate. These small seals have a key role in almost every area of a vehicle's engine, from the powertrain to the braking system, and so it is vital that they offer long-term reliability. Achieving that requires constant research and development, not only in optimizing the efficiency of the manufacturing process but in the O-ring materials, providing the best performance in some of the harshest conditions.

Datwyler Production System

The high quality of Datwyler's O-rings is carried across our complete range of sealing products and comes under the umbrella of the Datwyler Production System (DPS). The DPS was developed to achieve and maintain operational excellence and foster a lean culture, and guides all aspects of our day-to-day work.

Applied to all Datwyler plants around the world, DPS encompasses among others continuous improvement, process stability, team member empowerment, waste reduction, and a safe workplace as its guiding elements. The process stability DPS provides enables Datwyler to offer high quality O-rings for system-critical applications with consistent on-time delivery to our customers.

Zero Defects

One of the most important areas and main target of O-ring production are zero defects. Since many of these components have crucial roles in vehicle safety and function, Datwyler makes significant investments in producing millions of O-rings with zero defects. Whether it is high-precision geometry, residual flash, deformation, or any other surface defect, we regard a zero defect production as crucial to the manufacture process.

That high level of quality control is achieved through 100% camera inspection and automation, with each O-ring examined for a range of defects. The result is a highly consistent level of quality that is the same no matter which Datwyler facility is producing the part. With manufacturing facilities all over the world, Datwyler has the global footprint to offer all its customers O-rings with the same zero-defect standard and high-performance promise.

Co-engineering service

While many of Datwyler's customers require O-rings with a standard size and material, a number will need O-rings with very specific properties for unique applications. For these customers, Datwyler provides a co-engineering service that involves our experts working closely with our customers to understand their requirements before developing a solution that answers those requirements precisely.

First phase of FMEA - the design FMEA
Second phase of FMEA - the process FMEA

We know that the mobility sector moves quickly, and the need for new sealing materials with different physical properties is increasing.

Those properties include electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as electromagnetic insulation. Datwyler has carried out an extensive amount of research into materials development to offer a range of materials and coatings for O-rings, as well as analytic tools for testing.

O-rings is a hugely exciting area for Datwyler as it gives a wide range of opportunities to improve the performance of both traditional engine and e-powered vehicles. As the mobility sector develops, we will develop with it to offer the ideal solution to your O-ring needs.
