DIGITAL CINEMA DESTINATIONS CORP. CHAIRMAN, CEO AND DIGITAL CINEMA PIONEER BUD MAYO TO ADDRESS CINEMACON ATTENDEES ON MARCH 25 ABOUT ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMMING'S (AP) INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT ROLE IN EXHIBITION

WESTFIELD, New Jersey and LAS VEGAS, Nevada (March 12, 2014) - Digital Cinema Destinations Corp. (NasdaqCM: DCIN), a fast-growing motion picture exhibitor dedicated to transforming movie theaters into digital entertainment centers, today announced that its Chairman, CEO and Founder Bud Mayo has been invited to address movie theater owners and industry VIPs on Tuesday, March 25, at the world's largest event devoted exclusively to the cinema-going experience, CinemaCon. Mr. Mayo's program is entitled, 'Everything You Wanted to Know About Alternative Content But Were Afraid to Ask.'

Digiplex has led the exhibition industry with a higher percentage of box office receipts from alternative content/alternative programming (AP) since inception, averaging mid-single digits in a typical quarter, with some Company locations contributing as much as 20%.

"The better alternative programming performs today, the more likely producers will be to both fund and help market it in our theaters tomorrow," stated Mr. Mayo. "I look forward to having an interactive discussion with theatrical exhibitors from around the world and sharing some of what we have learned and adopted as best practices since becoming early adopters of AP as a key cornerstone of our strategy. I also am excited to hear about what has been working for others as well."

Among the topics addressed will be:

  • AP has come a long way from its very humble beginnings as closed circuit theater presentations of live sports in the 1950s, including boxing, basketball and football
    • Sports continues to be considered a 'killer app' among non-movie content, with other popular categories ranging from live concerts to opera to foreign language (Bollywood, etc.) and faith-based programs
  • Although Bud has been preaching about the importance of AP to the cinema exhibition industry for the past 15 years, the true tipping point only arrived in recent years…the digitization of North American (and the world's) movie screens
  • Digital cinema is all about providing more choices for the consumer…Hollywood tent-poles and other studio-produced titles will continue to provide the majority of box office receipts but AP can significantly boost capacity utilization, especially during quieter weekdays and weeknights when the vast majority of theater seats are unoccupied
  • AP provides a unique opportunity for exhibitors to be 'curators' of their content, capitalizing upon relatively attractive film splits similar to independent fare
  • Social media engagement, proactive outreach to local affinity groups in the community, 'eventizing' content and other ways to 'move the needle' will be explored

On Wednesday, March 26, AP distributor, DigiNext, a joint venture between Digiplex and Nehst Out LLC, will also participate in a Cinemacon showcase, 'Alternative Content Part II: An Open House with Today's Leading Providers of Alternative Content and Event Cinema from Around the Globe'. Since its launch in 2012, DigiNext release 10 AP titles and has been committed to providing theatrical distribution opportunities for talented but still below-the-radar directors and producers to reach appreciative audiences. Its releases have included "The United States of Football" and "A Miracle in Spanish Harlem". This spring, DigiNext has announced the release of Michael Urie's Thank You For Judging on April 18 and The American Nurse, a documentary by Carolyn Jones, at Digiplex Destinations across the country and other select theaters on May 8 in conjunction with National Nurses Week.
