DigitalTown announced a partnership with Monetizr. The partnership provides Monetizr’s 10 million members the ability to exchange their Monetizr Tokens (MTZs) with participating DigitalTown merchants, who receive a free, digital store front and low commission rates on their city’s platform powered by DigitalTown. DigitalTown’s web and mobile application empowers residents, visitors, merchants and municipalities to work together to build thriving sovereign local communities that connect locally and globally. The innovative platform helps citizens search, shop and connect within their local economies, thereby creating more resilient, sustainable and equitable local ecosystems around the world. At the core of the DigitalTown platform is the free SmartWallet, which supports both conventional currencies such as US Dollars and Euros and Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum as well as a growing number of so-called ALT Tokens. In addition to providing wallets for DigitalTown CityShares and CityTokens, support for MTZs is being added. DigitalTown’s blockchain-based CityShares represent ownership of a city platform and grant voting rights to owners. Holders of CityShares receive a percentage of the revenue generated by their city’s platform. Upon registration to DigitalTown, everyone receives 10 free CityShares for their resident city which can be bought and sold in a peer to peer exchange. CityTokens are also issued to people who engage with DigitalTown’s community tools. The mobile-based community tools encourage members of the DigitalTown movement to join or start discussions, create and manage events and projects, and also fundraise for the local community. The CityTokens, to which no specific monetary value is attributed, are exchanged with participating DigitalTown merchants for goods and services. Each merchant sets the value of CityTokens and can exchange them with DigitalTown for sponsored promotion on their city’s platform.
