Eiffage, through its subsidiaries Eiffage Genie Civil and Eiffage Senegal, won the contract awarded by the Societe Nationale des Eaux du Senegal (SONES) for the design, construction and operation for 24 months of the future Mamelles seawater desalination in Dakar, Senegal. The total amount of the contract is nearly 146 million euros*.

The consortium, of which Eiffage Genie Civil is the lead, includes Eiffage Senegal as well as the Indian multinational VA Tech Wabag and the Japanese company Toyota Tsusho Corporation. Eiffage teams are carrying out the work, VA Tech Wabag is in charge of the water treatment process and Toyota Tsusho Corporation is co-managing the project with Eiffage. Project management is provided by SONES and project management is entrusted to the Japanese company Nippon Koei.

The 30-month contract is part of the Emerging Senegal Plan (PSE) which aims to provide universal access to drinking water by 2035. The financing of the project is provided by the State of Senegal with a loan from Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

With a production capacity of 50,000 m3 per day, the plant will be the largest in West Africa when it comes into service. It will contribute to the diversification of drinking water sources in Senegal and to the improvement of the water supply capacity of the capital Dakar, by covering the needs of 1,000,000 inhabitants.

This new contract won by Eiffage in Senegal, a country in which the Group has been present for 96 years, testifies to the confidence granted by the authorities of the country and strengthens its position on the African continent for the realization of large complex projects. Eiffage is also confirming its know-how in the buoyant sector of desalination plants, after delivering the Doraleh plant in Djibouti in 2021.
