Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that Steve Daheb, Emulex chief marketing officer (CMO) and senior vice president (SVP) of business development, has been named as a finalist for the American Business Award Marketing Officer of the YearSM category. Daheb was selected, from more than 2,700 entries from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry, for his vision in driving a rebranding and repositioning initiative at Emulex, including building new corporate, channel, product and communications marketing strategies.

?This is a tremendous honor to be recognized among such an esteemed list of executives and organizations,? said Steve Daheb, CMO and SVP of business development, Emulex. ?This award signifies the success of the rebranding and repositioning initiative across the entire company, not just my own contributions, as the company executed and collaborated together in lock-step to ensure we brought Emulex to the next level, across every level of the organization.?

Change is the only constant in the technology business and for companies to thrive they have to be willing to re-invent themselves. Emulex was moving into the new network convergence market based on 10Gb/s Ethernet and as part of this re-invention process, the CMO role was created to unify and direct the go-to-market efforts within a very short window of opportunity to ensure that Emulex would emerged as a thought, brand and share leader in this new market.

To meet this new business requirement, Emulex brought in Steve Daheb. He joined Emulex in 2008 with the charter to change the markets the company pursued as well as the industry's perception of Emulex. Daheb recognized the opportunity and built a marketing and business development team to reposition the company for growth based on 10Gb/s Ethernet products. Among the many changes and innovation he drove, were an aggressive social media campaign to drive ?street-level? understand of the new Emulex, created a new brand identity and messaging, globalized product and technology launches and events, a more strongly-aligned and integrated marketing and communications team, and the creation of a unified message relevant to all audiences, including customers, investors, partners and the public. The end result was a more clearly defined vision, a differentiated product offering, and stronger thought leadership perception in the areas of storage networking, data center convergence and the evolution of the data center overall.

?This award is another proof point to the success of our marketing initiatives, led by Steve's innovative approach,? said Jeff Benck, executive vice president and chief operations officer, Emulex. ?Recognition for Steve and his team demonstrates that our increased marketing and sales investment, over the last two years, have definitely helped Emulex evolve from a storage networking leader into a converged networking powerhouse. Congratulations Steve and team for bringing Emulex to center stage at such a crucial time in the market.?

The American Business Awards are the nation's premier business awards program.

?To place as a finalist is a great accomplishment,? said Michael Gallagher, President of the Stevie Awards. ?All finalists received very high scores from the judges and should be proud to be recognized for their achievements.?

This year's award winners will be announced during the annual gala on Monday, June 21 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. More than six-hundred executives from across the U.S.A. are expected to attend. The event will benefit Oceana (oceana.org), the largest international organization focused on ocean conservation.
