Ericsson announces that it has successfully tested 5G at several key locations in Egypt's new administrative capital, in partnership with Telecom Egypt, achieving the maximum theoretical downlink throughput over the spectrum used.

The trial was conducted on the currently licensed 2.6 gigahertz (GHz) spectrum by deploying a non-autonomous 5G (NSA) solution using 4G/5G radios from Ericsson's radio system and connected to Ericsson's Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and Unified Data Management (UDM).

According to Fadi Pharaon, president of Ericsson Middle East and Africa, 'this groundbreaking trial will pave the way for the rollout of 5G networks across the country, opening up new connectivity opportunities and introducing improvements in speed, location accuracy, energy efficiency and lower latency, to the benefit of consumers and society.
