Disneyland Paris has made the commitment to reduce its waste by setting clear objectives.

Two teams at the tourist destination are dedicated to the management and follow-up of waste. Different technical devices, which they have set up in the backstage and administrative areas, help them in their work, and they also rely on actions aimed at increasing awareness and commitment among Cast Members.

Awareness actions are launched simultaneously to increase employee commitment. The aim is to reach sustainable waste management by using billboards and making recycling bins - mostly for paper, cans, plastic bottles and batteries- available.

The results for 2016 show Disneyland Paris reached its objectives, since the operational waste recovery rate throughout fiscal year 2016 is 49% compared to 46% and 45% respectively for fiscal years 2015 and 2014.The Euro Disney group plans to reach a 60% operational waste recovery rate by 2020.

The group's ambition in matters of prevention, recycling and disposal of waste is based on the 6 following priorities:

  • Reduce
  • Reuse
  • Develop sorting by material and optimise source separation
  • Recycle or compost
  • Transform waste into energy, i.e. use bio-methanisation
  • Incinerate and save energy or place in landfill and recover methane
  • Waste collection and sorting are done by using specific boxes, bins and/or compactors set up in the backstage areas

Cast Members are the first ambassadors of the group in terms of environment. Naturally their involvement is one of the major levers to reach the objectives set for 2020. That is also the aim of the Disney Environmentality program, as clearly stated in their slogan, 'Think, decide and act while keeping in mind the impact on the environment, on Nature and on future generations'. The program encourages each employee to act daily in view of reaching these environmental objectives.
