Exelis (NYSE:XLS) Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary Ann Davidson has been selected to join the 2015 DirectWomen Board Institute program.

“DirectWomen is an organization formed to position women lawyers to serve on boards of public companies,” according to a press release announcing the Board Institute attendees. “The Institute covers key issues facing current and future corporate directors and provides an opportunity for class members to interact with leading executives, directors, search firm consultants, and Institute alumnae.”

Davidson joined Exelis, then ITT Defense & Information Solutions, in 2007 as vice president and general counsel. Shortly thereafter she was named ITT’s chief ethics and compliance officer and, in November 2009 she was elected corporate vice president. In October 2011, Davidson became a senior vice president at Exelis.

Prior to joining the corporation, Davidson held executive legal positions in several companies, and earlier in her career, Davidson was in private practice with a law firm and served as an attorney for the U.S. Department of the Navy.

“The DirectWomen Board Institute’s purpose is aligned with Exelis’ commitment to inclusion and diversity, and advancing meaningful opportunities to increase the participation of women in all aspects of our business,” said Exelis Chief Executive Officer and President David Melcher. “It is no surprise that Ann has been selected to attend the Board Institute. She has the experience, strategic acumen and sound business judgment to be a very effective board member.”

The Board Institute, now in its 7th year, will be held June 3-5, 2015 in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
