In the wake the torrential rains and widespread, record-level flooding that has devastated much of southern Alberta, GardaWorld is working to support our clients, employees and the community.

Employee safety

Many of our people were personally affected by the storm and continue to work shifts regardless of their hardships. Our Calgary office has been delivering food, water and extra uniforms, in addition to securing temporary housing for these brave men and women. The safety of our employees is of upmost importance and we will continue to work with them throughout the recovery process.

Protecting our clients

To keep our clients protected during this time of crisis, GardaWorld contacted the City of Calgary Emergency Management Office and obtained permission to cross closed checkpoints in marked GardaWorld vehicles to the downtown core where the general public had been evacuated.  Doing this enabled us to ensure our ability to provide clients with continuous security coverage for asset protection, access control and fire watch when the power was shut off and public transportation ceased.  This also enabled us to pick up employees from public transit stations in operations outside the closed zone and shuttled them in and out of the evacuation zone on a regular basis.

To bolster our workforce in southern Alberta and meet the growing needs of clients who have enacted business continuity plans, this past weekend we commenced an aggressive recruitment campaign. We plan to bring on an additional 100 licensed security guards at our Calgary location and have so far fulfilled 15 percent of that commitment with part-time employees. Many more are needed.

Community support

Throughout our efforts to protect our employees and clients, we maintain our steadfast commitment to the community. GardaWorld has made a significant donation to the Canadian Red Cross to help support the community and ensure a quick recovery. In addition, donation boxes have been set up at our 17 Canadian offices across the country.

We will continue to provide periodic updates as we make progress on the road to recovery. In the meantime, if you have any needs or concerns that we can help you address, please contact our Calgary office at 403 255 7940.
