Gazprom PJSC said Friday that it has signed a sales and purchase agreement for the supply of natural gas with China National Petroleum Corp.

The oil-and-gas company, which is majority owned by the Russian government, said natural gas will be supplied via the Far Eastern route.

The London-listed company said the amount of Russian pipeline gas supplies to China will grow by 10 billion cubic meters, totaling 48 billion cubic meters a year, once the project reaches its full capacity.

"This is already a second contract to be signed for Russian gas supplies to China," Chairman Alexey Miller said, referring to the contract signed in 2014 with CNPC for 38 billion cubic meters of gas a year.

The ceremony marking the start of the first-ever pipeline supplies to China took place in December 2019, Gazprom said.
