British team proves Grontmij´s BIM expertise by being awarded 'BIM Project of the Year' at the 2015 Constructing Excellence Awards

On 17th July 2015, over 350 professionals of the construction industry came together at the Yorkshire and Humberside 2015 Constructing Excellence Awards in Great Britain. Among them were the winners across 14 categories, including the new category 'BIM Project of the Year' which was awarded to a dedicated team of Grontmij´s Group Growth Segment (GGS) Highways & Roads. Something to be really proud of!

Helping non-technical stakeholders visualise their projects, is an immense benefit of BIM (Building Information Modelling). BIM expertise is increasingly requested from clients all over Europe and Grontmij has just presented itself as an industry leader in the field of BIM at the Constructing Excellence Awards in Great Britain. A dedicated team of Grontmij colleagues, led by Rupinder Wilkhu, were part of the A1 Leeming to Barton project team who were awarded the 1st prize in the 'BIM Project of the Year' as well as in the 'Innovation' category. They also scooped the 'Best of the Best' category.

Iain Scott, Grontmij Director of Transportation, Landscape & Environment UK & Ireland, comments on this outstanding achievement: 'Our team of experts delivered the predominant input in the complex BIM production necessary to drive the development of the A1(M) Leeming to Barton Improvement Project forward at an increased efficiency. We are very proud of these motivated colleagues who worked closely together with team members from our collaborative partners Carillion, Morgan Sindall, and Aecom.' The use of BIM in this specific highway project has already shown several benefits, among them increased programme surety and savings in excess of £1m.

The adoption of BIM in projects in the highway sector marks a cultural change through an early engaged approach and a forward-thinking-vision of embracing digital innovation and collaboration. Explains Iain: 'This change has totally reinvented our engagement, bringing the client, construction joint venture, design partners, extended supply chain and customers together.' The use of BIM can result in more cost-efficiency in construction processes, an increased understanding of projects to all stakeholders, improved safety, and a better informed customer. Iain and his Grontmij colleagues are eager to deliver more BIM projects in the near future.
