The Mataro City Council has once again placed its trust in FCC Medio Ambiente and has awarded it the contract for waste collection and road and beach cleaning for a period of five years.

The contract, launched in June, represents a portfolio of 50.86 million euros. FCC Medio Ambiente has been serving the citizens of Mataro uninterruptedly for more than 50 years.

This contract highlights the commitment of the municipality of Mataro for sustainability and the urban environment, since more than 36% of the vehicles of the service and a large number of tools and tools will be electric, with the corresponding benefits in pollutant emissions and noise, carbon footprint and energy efficiency for the urban environment.

To serve the nearly 129,000 inhabitants of the municipality and carry out the collection and transport service of the more than 51,000 tons of waste from the different fractions per year, there will be a fleet of 28 vehicles. As the most noteworthy novelties of the collection service are the implementation as a pilot test of bicompartimented collection of waste door to door in one of the residential neighborhoods of the municipality and the creation of a new service of emerging mobile platforms of remove and put for the domestic collection of the urban center, which will be put in the afternoon and removed at night , with the consequent elimination of the fixed and underground containers existing in that area of the municipality.

A pilot test will also be carried out with container closure and access control for the increase of selective collection and reduction of the rejection fraction, and commercial collection will be enhanced with the expansion to five fractions of waste in the center and commercial axes.

As for the road cleaning service, which will serve 308 kilometers of street and will have a fleet of 43 vehicles, a new night service of emptying will be launched in the center of the municipality. It should be noted that all the manual sweeping with auxiliary vehicle will be carried out with a 100% electric fleet and that the cleaning of the areas of the containers and spills will be reinforced with an increase in brigades in the three shifts of the day, seven days a week.

Within this contract, the beach cleaning service is also contemplated, with a plan adapted to their seasonal needs, which will cover 2 kilometers of coastline and in which two tractors with screeners will be used for mechanical cleaning and a 4x4 open box vehicle.

The contract has a staff of 199 people and, in the social field, it is worth mentioning the subcontracting of personnel with intellectual disabilities for the beach cleaning service and support for the collection of bulky through the local entity Fundacio Maresme. On the other hand, in order to respond to the concerns and complaints of citizens and inform and promote the public services provided, the new figure of the Community Manager will be hired.

With regard to the technological advances of the contract, we highlight the monitoring and reading by means of tag of all the collected, the implantation of volumetric sensors for the glass fraction and establishment of dynamic routes, as well as the computerization of all the personnel with smartphones to be able to report and resolve incidents and the consolidation of the APP of incidents of the citizen in direct communication with the operators of the service.
