The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) have recognized Heinz's U.S. Consumer Products business unit and GENCO Damage Research as 2006 Unsaleables Innovation Award winners in the manufacturer category. The award is given annually to companies who work across industries to reduce the incidence of Unsaleables.

"Heinz is honored to be recognized, along with our partner GENCO, for our innovative approaches and significant successes in reducing Unsaleables," said David Moran, President and CEO of Heinz North American Consumer Products. "This effort is one important piece of a game-changing initiative we've instituted to reduce waste throughout the organization."

Don Rombach Vice President of GENCO's Damage Research commented on the Heinz relationship by saying, "The success of the Heinz program can be directly linked to a clear alignment of the company's strategic vision and a dedicated focus on minimizing waste. Heinz has developed a very strong cross-functional team to focus on eliminating damages and waste throughout the organization." Rombach believes "this commitment adds value to Heinz's customers by ensuring products arrive as expected and ultimately improves the consumer's experience in product quality and the perception of the retail outlet."
