DIY megastore and garden center with building materials drive-in facility opens tomorrow in Constanţa / Ninth location in Romania / More than Euro 32 million invested in land, building, and fittings / 110 employees offer advice and services

Constanţa / Bornheim, September 27, 2022. Starting tomorrow, DIY enthusiasts, professional customers, and gardening fans in the Romanian city of Constanţa on the Black Sea coast will have access to Hornbach's huge product range on sales areas totaling 20,000 square meters (unweighted*). More than 60,000 articles are immediately available in well-stocked project quantities at the new DIY store and garden center and its integrated building materials drive-in facility. This is Hornbach's ninth location in Romania, and its first on the Black Sea. The company has invested more than Euro 32 million in the land, building, and fittings.

"People in Constanţa and the surrounding area can look forward to shopping at a state-of-the-art, top-performing DIY store and garden center", commented Erich Harsch, CEO of Hornbach Baumarkt AG, in a greeting to the press conference held yesterday (Monday). "Romania is now one of the countries where we are growing the fastest. The pace of expansion is impressive." Following Oradea in 2020 and Cluj-Napoca in 2021, Constanţa is already the third large-scale location that Hornbach has implemented in Romania at the beginning of the 2020s. Since entering the Romanian market in 2007, the company has opened nine stores. Further stores are planned.

Unrivalled value for money

"The key motivation to extend our store network with this new location was the consistent and extremely positive economic growth shown by Constanţa for years now", explained Mugurel-Horia Rusu, Hornbach's Country Director in Romania, at the press conference. Countless gardening fans and home improvement enthusiasts among the 300,000 inhabitants of the Black Sea city had feverishly awaited the store opening. "Here, Hornbach is known for its high product quality, competent specialist advice, wide-ranging services, and above all for its reliable permanent low price strategy 365 days a year - and thus for absolutely unrivalled value for money", he added.

Numerous services and state-of-the-art specialist departments

Like at the other eight locations, the services on offer at the new store include the delivery of goods, assembly by craftspeople, woodcutting, a curtain-sewing service, and picture framing. At the drive-in facility spread over more than 6,600 square meters, customers can load heavy and bulky building materials directly from the shelves into their own cars or transporters. Additional features at the store include a showroom with a large selection of flooring materials, a modern department for tools and machines, a 5,000 square meter garden center, including an aquarium unit and pet supplies, and numerous other specialist departments. Overall, the store has more than 60,000 articles immediately available in well-stocked project volumes and at Hornbach's reliable permanent low prices. Via their own smartphones and at store terminals, customers can also access the online shop at hornbach.ro with some 75,000 articles currently available. They can have these products delivered to their homes or free of charge to the stores. Customers also have the option of reserving articles from the store's product range online and collecting them fully processed from the goods collection point just two hours later.

Competent specialist advice for numerous projects

Demand for the materials needed for construction, renovation, and modernization and projects remains high in Romania. The trend towards do-it-yourself is still continuing and has long reached younger generations as well. "We are also seeing ever more people coming to us who plan to implement larger-scale projects in their houses, apartments, and gardens for the first time. For them, expertise and competent specialist advice are a priority. And now 110 colleagues are available at the store to assist them", explained Mugurel-Horia Rusu.

The Hornbach store in Constanţa is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. On Mondays to Saturdays, the drive-in facility opens at 7 a.m. already.
