IBM plans to expand its cloud infrastructure in Canada with a new Cloud Multizone Region in the province of Quebec.

The technology giant said Monday that the new MZR will made up of three availability zones around the city of Montreal.

They will be made up of isolated locations within a data center or cloud infrastructure, that are designed to provide availability, consistent cloud services and greater dependability by mitigating single points of failure.

IBM opened Toronto's MZR in 2021 as well as other data centers in Montreal. The new MZR is expected to open in the first half of next year.

The company said the facility will be designed to help its clients navigate regulatory requirements and leverage technology such as Generative AI with its enterprise cloud platform.
