On a per-share basis, the Toronto-based company said it had net income of 6 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 11 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 9 cents per share.

The gold mining company posted revenue of $1.12 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $416.3 million, or 34 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $4.24 billion.
