Knoll : Architectural Digest gives an Object Lesson on the Schultz 1966 Adjustable Chaise in the Summer Issue

Hannah Martin, Architectural Digest's Senior Design Editor, honors the Schultz collection and its longevity with the headline - 'Chic Outdoor Chaise Lounge Has Weathered Test of Time.' The article describes how Schultz received inspiration from Florence Knoll's insatiable appetite for design that works. Schultz designed the Leisure Collection, a line of furniture deemed 'the antidote' to earlier outdoor furniture which he described as 'puddle-collecting, joint-rusting, hot-seat upholstered products'. 'A room can fall flat with a set,' he says. 'When a table and chairs are in the same material, color, and style, it all kind of blends together.'

The Leisure Line's longevity is due in part to 'its pure, minimalist quality [which] makes it useful when you want something quiet,' says designer Steven Volpe. All products in the line were described in the article as being 'cast in aluminum, coated with rustproof plastic paint, and stretched with breathable mesh sourced from a shoemaker.' The Schultz collection today includes dining chairs and tables, coffee tables, serving carts, and of course, the chaise lounge, all for the purpose of outdoor leisure.
