Kumho Tire has confirmed the relocation of the China Nanjing Factory in stages by 2016. Kumho Tire is expected to relocate to an economic development zone in Pukou, Nanjing 30km from the original factory site, planning to move its passenger car tires(PCR) and truck and bus radial tires(TBR) factories in stages from 2015 to the end of 2016.
The Nanjing Factory relocation was first brought up as a part of an urban development policy by the Nanjing city government planning to move the factories located in the city to new sites, holding continuous relocation negotiations with eligible companies. Kumho Tire started negotiations with the Nanjing city government in 2011 and reached a basic settlement for compensation in the end of 2014, finalizing the new site where the Nanjing factories will be relocated.
In regards to the relocation, Kumho Tire held a groundbreaking ceremony on the site for the new Nanjing Factory on Jan. 22 with representatives from the Kumho Asiana Group and city government officials attending the ceremonies. Many guests were in attendance for the ceremony including Chinese government officials Yang Yuanyuan, China's deputy director of State Administration of Work Safety and Luo Qon, a member of China's Nanjing Municipal Committee, Korean government official Sang-Chan Ku, South Korean Consulate-General of Shanghai, and Kumho Asiana Group executives Chang-Kyu Kim, president of Kumho Tire, Sam-Koo Park, chairman and CEO of Kumho Asiana Group.
The Pukou economic development zone authorities promised to Kumho Tire to provide an optimal environment for construction including land, water supply, electricity, and road access. Kumho Tire expects to construct a state-of-the-art eco-friendly factory combining its separate PCR and TBR factories into a single new factory to make production more efficient while also equipping the factory with new high-end machines and technology to produce globally competitive high quality tires. The company also expects to be able to supply premium Original Equipment(OE) abroad with the new factory.
