American Liberty Global is delisting its Belgian subsidiary Telenet, the Belgian counterpart of VodafoneZiggo. Telenet will be 100 percent owned by Liberty Global.

A simplified share buyout will follow until Oct. 13. During that period, the remaining shareholders can sell their shares at the same financial terms (21 euros per share).

Liberty already announced on March 21 that it wanted to delist Telenet. An offer of 21 euros per share was made, but that proved insufficient to convince shareholders.

Telenet itself announced one of these days that Telenet Wi-Free will be discontinued as of November 1. The service allowed Telenet customers to connect to wifi networks of other Telenet customers, as can be done with Ziggo.

According to Telenet, it is discontinuing Wi-Free because of high maintenance costs. Costs that Telenet says it cannot justify.
