Free, 3D Virtual Try-On App is Changing the Way People Find Glasses They Love

Salt Lake City, Utah - April 30, 2014 - Innovative online eyewear shop, glasses.com, announced today that it has been named the Best Use of Device Camera in the 18th Annual Webby Awards. Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.

Glasses.com, recently acquired by global eyewear leader Luxottica, offers top brands and a wide range of styles and price points. It combines the best of the digital age with real people who are dedicated to providing unparalleled expertise and insight, developing tech tools with a human touch to help people find glasses they truly love. The glasses.com app, featuring unique 3D virtual try-on technology, launched in July 2013 to rave reviews and has since been downloaded millions of times across mobile platforms.

The breakthrough glasses.com app combines advanced computer modeling with Hollywood-style special effects, and relies entirely on the device camera to improve the online eyewear shopping experience for users.

"We believe that everyone should have glasses they love," said glasses.com General Manager, John Graham. "Glasses.com has a unique balance of smart technology and passionate experts because we want to ensure every step of the process from finding eyewear online and on the go, to having them shipped fast and free, is a truly great experience. We're thrilled to be recognized as a winner in this year's Webby Awards."

Available for both Apple and Android devices, the app renders captured images into a 3D model so accurate that it is nearly impossible to distinguish from a real photograph. It captures video using the device's camera and selects 15 still frames at key angles to render into a 180-degree 3D representation with a front view and two side profiles of each user's face, all in about one minute. Users can interact with the app, swiping the touch screen to slide frames up and down the bridge of their nose, and can also use built-in sharing features to get opinions from friend and family over social media before they buy.

"Glasses.com has set the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. "This award is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators."

Glasses.com will be honored at the star-studded Webby Awards ceremony on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, where winners will have an opportunity to deliver one of The Webby Awards' famous 5-Word Speeches.
