Dec 7 (Reuters) - Lynas Rare Earths said on Thursday its Kalgoorlie processing facility in Western Australia received its first rare-earths feed, marking a milestone in the miner's aim to expand its footprint and capacity levels.

Shares of Lynas, the world's top rare-earths miner outside of China, jumped as much as 3% at A$6.620, their highest level since Nov. 30.

After the completion of the kiln heating and other processing activities, first lanthanide concentrate feed from Mt Weld deposit has been introduced into the Kalgoorlie rare-earths processing facility, the company said.

"This is an important milestone and marks the transition from the commissioning phase to first production and the ramp-up of the facility," Lynas said in an exchange filing.

"The Kalgoorlie rare-earths processing facility is Australia's first value-added rare-earths processing facility, making it a significant project for both Lynas and the Australian critical minerals industry," Chief Executive Officer Amanda Lacaze said.

The mixed rare-earths carbonate from the Kalgoorlie facility will be progressively introduced to the Lynas Malaysia plant late in the March quarter, the company said.

Its Malaysia plant, which is currently shut to complete upgrading works, will resume production in January.

Lynas' Malaysian operations have been a sore point for the company in the past, but a recent amendment for its operating license to allow the Australian firm to import raw materials containing natural radioactive material and process rare-earths until March 2026 was a sigh of relief.

"Kalgoorlie processing will help with risks and makes the Lynas Malaysia Plant more palatable but does not replace it," said Henry Jennings, senior market analyst at Marcustoday.

"This (Kalgoorlie processing) has taken a long time and overrun time-wise so it is a positive that it is starting this year," Jennings added.
