London, May 6 (EFE).- Crystal Palace put Manchester United between a rock and a hard place, leaving their chances of being in Europe in question, with a 4-0 thrashing in the English Premier League on Monday.

The game will be remembered forever in south London for the masterclass by Michael Olise, who scored two goals, and a disastrous performance by Casemiro.

The Brazilian, who played a role in several Palace goals, completed one of his worst games in a Manchester United shirt at Selhurst Park, a field where Erik Ten Hag's team may now have left their European hopes behind.

With three games left in the league, they slipped to eighth place, behind Chelsea on goal difference, who remained in seventh with an equal 54 points.

Newcastle United are in the sixth position that guarantees access to the Conference League, leading Chelsea and Manchester United by two points.

If Ten Hag had any hopes of continuing next season, the last few games put an end to them, and the game against Palace appeared like the last nail in the coffin.

His defense was in tatters from the moment Olise collected the ball from Daniel Munoz on the halfway line in 12 minutes, side-stepped Christian Eriksen, and slid past Casemiro before finishing low into the bottom-right corner.

Casemiro had a goal from a corner ruled out for a Rasmus Hojlund foul on the Palace goalkeeper in the first half before the hosts doubled their lead.

Five minutes from the break, Jean-Phillipe Mateta, this team's top scorer since coach Oliver Glasner arrived, dribbled past Jonny Evans with great simplicity and hit the ball with a brutal shot at Andre Onana's near post.

Though it was already clear that United might leave the field empty-handed, they at least created a few chances in the first half, but it was the second half when their performance became embarrassing.

Tyrick Mitchell took advantage of a bad clearance by Diogo Dalot to make it 3-0, and Casemiro was once again in the frame when Daniel Munoz stole the ball from him on the baseline and passed it to Olise, who made it 4-0.

United's current eighth position would be the worst in its history in the Premier League, if it ended like this, surpassing seventh in the 2013-2014 season.

United have to host Arsenal on Sunday, play Newcastle United at home next, and close the league at Brighton. EFE
