South Beach Diet®, a division of Nutrisystem, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTRI), a leading provider of weight management products and services, announced the launch of the new South Beach Diet Keto-Friendly program designed to be a low-carb, high-fat dietary pattern consistent with a “keto” diet. This new program was inspired by the growing trend toward health-conscious consumers pursuing keto lifestyle and products, which have been associated with health benefits, weight loss and performance.

The keto-friendly program option offers consumers the ability to adapt the proven South Beach Diet to make it more “keto.” All South Beach customers will receive the new, keto-friendly South Beach Simply Fit™ Shakes with 3 grams of net carbohydrates per serving, added minerals such as potassium, magnesium and calcium for hydration, and MCT oil — one of the top nutrients included in keto diets. Simply Fit Shakes also deliver 20g of protein per serving and probiotics to support digestive health and the immune system.

The South Beach Diet® app, designed as a complement to the South Beach Diet weight management programs, has been revamped to support the keto-friendly option. The company will also deliver recipes, tips, and other content related to the keto lifestyle via the South Beach Diet blog, The Palm.

“Our goal is to make a keto-friendly lifestyle approachable for consumers who are looking for a place to start,” said Courtney McCormick, Manager, Clinical Research and Nutrition for South Beach Diet. “Our customers will see successful results on this low-carb, keto-friendly program in a simple and safe way.”

The existing and proven South Beach Diet program, which is high in lean protein and low in carbohydrates and added sugar, remains available for those who do not wish to follow the keto-friendly option. Customers on the South Beach Diet program can expect to lose up to seven pounds in the first seven days on the program, a motivating start to a healthier lifestyle.

“We continue to be committed to the same ‘lean protein,’ ‘healthy fats’ and ‘good carbs’ principles that have stood the test of time and brought success to followers of South Beach for more than 15 years,” said Dawn Zier, President and CEO of Nutrisystem, Inc. “Consumers want to try the latest healthy-eating approaches that are proven to work well for friends and celebrities, and right now, that’s keto. Our latest plan gives customers the option of leading a keto-friendly lifestyle in a simple and safe way on the path to getting in the best shape of their lives.”

South Beach has increased its menu by over 30% for 2019, including 24 new foods, and boasts a menu of more than 100 meals and snacks with globally-inspired flavors. Additionally, as part of a company-wide initiative to offer foods with simple, more recognizable ingredients, the brand conducted extensive research and updated its list of 71 restricted ingredients that can commonly be found and approved for use in food to ensure all South Beach Diet menu items meet this new standard in 2019. The full list of these 71 Restricted Ingredients is published here.

Also new is the launch of South Beach’s new nutrition pledge that includes commitments to provide foods that are free from the following items:

  • No artificial flavors or sweeteners
  • No colors from artificial sources
  • No high fructose corn syrup
  • No artificial trans fats (No partially hydrogenated oils)

Jessie James Decker, country singer and mother of three, continues as South Beach Diet’s lead ambassador, appearing in new television commercials, digital ads and across social media platforms.
