ARD Tagesschau, Germany's best known news show format hosted by NDR in Hamburg, has chosen Orad´s real time graphic systems to modernize their appearance in a renewed studio with a new on air design and new production workflow. The new studio is a real set and includes a 17-meter long curved media wall which displays perfectly tracked real time graphics regardless of camera angle and curvature of the media wall. The studio is used for daily productions with focus on news, in 24/7-operation. The new state of the art studio went on air successfully on April 19th.

NDR approached Orad with the concept of a "real 3D window set" with a huge panoramic video wall behind their presenters that would be visible to the presenters and yet not distorted by the curvature of the video wall. With Orad's PowerWall solution, the entire curved media wall with a resolution of nearly 8.8 million pixels is populated by a series of seven HD projectors, all served by a single renderer machine, Orad's HDVG4. The graphics are displayed pixelization-free and without any jittering edges between sections. In addition, as the presenters are of different heights, Orad's solution ensures that the same content can be displayed at the correct position over their shoulder. All the graphics and templates themselves were created by Orad's professional services team.

Orad provided NDR with a system solution designed for newly developed production workflows driven by a newscast automation system for playout.  Using Orad's Maestro, ARD-aktuell journalists populate graphic templates with texts, images and video clips and build rundowns in NRCS OpenMedia . All workflows allow quick changes in the production rundowns at any time. Content can be changed and adapted anytime.

"We are very pleased of the results of our endeavour with Orad. The display of extremely high resolution graphics on a huge panoramic video wall brought many challenges including the automatic correction of the distorted graphics to ensure that the graphics always look best regardless of which of the six cameras used. Orad met all these challenges and provided us with a sharp, reliable solution that raises the bar on news broadcasts to a new level; " resumes  Stephan Persdorf, Art Director ARD-aktuell.
