FOR IMMEDIATE RELAESE

Palabora Copper pays tribute to 20, 30 & 40 years of loyalty

"If you work for a man, work for him! If he pays you wages that supply you with bread and butter, work for him - speak well of him, think well of him, stand by him and
stand by the institution he represents." These are words worth describing the crowd of dedicated men and women, who have gathering together with their partners to celebrate their 20, 30 and 40 years of unwavering service to Palabora Copper.
Tonight on Friday, 14 November 2014, the ambience at Rooiskool is that of festivity as Mr. Han Jinghua, Chief Executive Officer acknowledged all long service awards recipients and the contribution they have made to build the business to the level it is today. It is through their hard work and commitment that Palabora continues to deliver and perform as South Africa's only produce of refined copper, as well as supplying the market with magnetite and vermiculite while ensuring that its men and women safely go home to their families at the end of each shift. "I am self-assured that with this kind of passion, dedication and experience carried through by this team, Palabora will soar above the current challenges and sail smoothly aboard into
the desired future", added Mr. Han.

Ahead of long service awards being handed over to the deserving recipients, General Managers took to the stage to felicitate their teams for their continued support and dedication to the business.
Speaking on behalf of all the recipients, Godfrey Mbhalati, a 30 year award recipient, did not fall short of words in his speech as he cited on the challenges that the company has undergone, which each one of the recipients have witnessed and said, it is through each and every one of these recipients' hard-work that the business navigated through this challenges and overcame. He encouraged his peers to continue working hard, saying "the success of the Lift II lies with us; it is our responsibility to take the lead and make it a reality for the benefit of our families and the Ba-Phalaborwa community. Let us continue to live the values and lead by example; share the knowledge that we gained over the years and transfer skills to those who come after us. Let us leave behind a lasting legacy."
David Mokoena, Chairperson of NUM Palabora Branch, reflected on the relationship that the company has with its employees and organized labour, as well as the way the parties have always been able to resolve issues harmoniously. He commended the recipients for their loyalty to the company and confirmed that organized labour will continue to play its role and provide the required support to the business.
Joe Kutane and Innocent Mabushe melodies captured the crowd as everyone enjoys succulent meal to complete the evening.
"I think if I worked for that man, I would work for him. I would not work for him only part of the time and the rest of the time work against him. I would give an undivided service or none."

ENDS Note to the Editor about Palabora Copper (Pty) Limited

Palabora Copper (Pty) Limited (Palabora) is a copper mine, smelter and refinery complex based in the town of Phalaborwa, in South Africa's Limpopo Province. The mine owes its origins to a unique

rock formation in the region known as the Palabora Igneous Complex.

Palabora has been operational since its incorporation in 1956 and is the country's only producer of refined copper, producing approximately 80 000 tonnes per year. Operational since its incorporation

in 1956, Palabora Copper is South Africa's sole producer of refined copper, which it supplies mainly to the local market and export the balance. Whilst copper forms the base-load of its business, Palabora also mines and exports other by-products such as Magnetite, Vermiculite Sulphuric acid, anode

slimes and nickel sulphate.

More than a mine

Located directly adjacent to the world-renowned eco-tourism attraction, the Kruger National Park, Palabora coordinates several onsite wildlife management and cultural heritage programmes as part of its ongoing sustainability drive. The company also collaborates closely with various communities in

the Ba-Phalaborwa district to boost economic development and alleviate poverty.
