MEDIA RELEASE PARKWAY COLLEGE NURTURES FIRST BATCH Of MASTERS IN HEALTH ADMINISTRATION GRADUATES FOR HEALTHCARE SECTOR

? 148 graduates to receive their scrolls at college's second graduation ceremony

? Alumni network launched in August 2012

Singapore, 5 November 2012 - Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health ("Parkway College") will celebrate the graduation of 148 students at the college's second graduation ceremony this afternoon. Associate Professor Fatimah Lateef, Deputy Chairman of the Singapore Government Parliamentary Committee for Health, is the Guest-of-Honour. Close to 500 attendees including the graduands' family members, friends and colleagues are expected to be present at the ceremony held at RELC International Hotel.

Of the 148 graduands, 10 of them are the first to earn a Masters in Health Administration, a two-year course developed in collaboration with Flinders University of South Australia, which is targeted at medical, nursing and allied health professionals, as well as administrators in the healthcare industry or related fields, looking to enhance their management skills. All 10
Masters graduates are existing healthcare professionals from the public and private sectors.
Ms Celene Ting, valedictorian for the pioneer graduating class of the Masters in Health Administration and currently working in HCA Hospice Care as Assistant Manager, Community Relations, says, "The Masters in Health Administration programme is unique and extremely hands-on. The rigour of the curriculum, the dedication of the lecturers as well as the ample opportunities we were given to exchange knowledge and insights with fellow healthcare professionals strengthened our competencies and capabilities in our respective areas of work. I am confident of making a meaningful difference in the healthcare sector, specifically, in hospice care and research, which are growing areas that need greater public attention and support. It also helped that the Masters is a part-time course which allowed me some flexibility to accommodate my full-time job."

Mrs Nellie Tang, Chief Executive Officer of Parkway College, comments, "The success of the new Masters programme has been very encouraging, as we can see by the doubling in enrolment numbers since its launch in 2010. Moving forward, Parkway College will be expanding our stable of offerings by rolling out more specialised courses next year. Some of these courses will aim to address the urgent need for competent healthcare professionals knowledgeable in distinctive areas such as aged care, clinical research, and medical and

surgical nursing."

Among the other graduates, 53 will graduate with a Diploma in Nursing, 25 with an Advanced Diploma in Critical Care Nursing and 33 with an Advanced Diploma in Perioperative Care Nursing. The remaining 27 will graduate with Diplomas in Healthcare Management and Graduate Diplomas in Healthcare Management.
This new cohort of graduates from Parkway College will support the need for qualified healthcare professionals in Singapore at private and public healthcare institutions. All 53 diploma holders in Nursing have found 100% employment while those with advanced diplomas, who are currently 100% employed, will be able to advance their careers through their enhanced skill sets.
Mrs Tang adds, "Healthcare is an important pillar of our society that has been facing a severe shortage of manpower in Singapore for some years. I am proud to see so many have committed to taking on this noble profession, and others already in the sector going the extra mile to upgrade their skills. We are confident that armed with the requisite knowledge and practical training, our graduates will move on to contribute positively to the healthcare ecosystem in Singapore."
Parkway College currently has a total enrolment of 585 students and is the first private institution to offer a diploma in nursing accredited by the Singapore Nursing Board. The institution was one of the first few to be awarded the EduTrust Mark by the Council of Private Education in 2010.
The Parkway College Alumni was officially formed in August this year as a platform for graduates from Pantai College of Nursing and Health Science and Gleneagles College of Nursing, and its sister colleges in Malaysia to support, stay engaged and network with one another. It is also an opportunity to share knowledge and ideas for best practice.
Looking at the College's various achievements in the past year, Mrs Tang says, "It is encouraging to have Parkway College growing from strength to strength in its first four years. We have developed a rigorous curriculum that is knowledge-based and experience-driven for our graduates to be competent in their chosen fields, and have since been recognised as an established educator-of-choice. We have an engaged and committed student base, which we have successfully channelled into an alumni network that will go on to be a meaningful resource for the generations of students that go through the Parkway College experience."
