SINGAPORE, 4 AUGUST 2011 ? Parkway Holdings Limited (?Parkway? or ?the Group?) celebrates the contributions of 12 outstanding nurses with its Parkway Nurse Awards and reaffirms its commitment to nurturing and retaining the best nursing talent in the organisation through setting up of a new nursing resource centre in support of nurses? training and development needs. This year?s awards comprise three new categories, namely ?Most Promising Young Nurse", "Nurse I Admire Most" and "Most Inspiring Nurse Leader", where the winners are selected based on voting and rating by nurses. (Please refer to Annex 1 for the list of winners.)
Dr Lim Suet Wun, Executive Vice-President, Singapore Operations Division of Parkway said, ?At Parkway, nurses are always a priority. To reward them for their dedication to patient care, we introduced three new award categories this year. The winners are chosen by their colleagues/peers. Winning the award is a testament of how well they are perceived amongst their colleagues and is truly an honour for them. On behalf of Parkway management, I congratulate them all on this tremendous achievement and thank all our nurses for their tireless dedication to looking after our patients.?An award ceremony will be held tomorrow as part of Parkway?s Nurses Day celebrations, where
300 nurses will be treated to a free movie screening. In addition, all Parkway nurses will receive S$50 NTUC vouchers and a free movie voucher (to all nurses who were not at the movie screening). Parkway is also pleased to announce that three of its outstanding nurses have received the Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) Nurses? Merit Award 2011, which recognises their outstanding performance and dedication to the profession. This is also a testament to the quality of the nursing talent within the Parkway group. Supporting the professional development of nursesA strong believer of lifelong learning, Parkway through its education arm Parkway College has a range of sponsored courses for professional development and upgrading opportunities for nurses, which range from Diploma in Nursing to Master of Health Administration. For many years, Parkway also has given different types of bursaries and scholarships to sponsor the education and professional development of nurses. This year, Mr Richard Seow, former Chairman of Parkway Holdings, has announced his continuing commitment pledging up to a total of S$100,000 in scholarship and bursary funds as well.
In addition, Parkway nurses are also given the opportunity to go on overseas short-study attachments and conferences to learn best nursing practices in renowned medical centres and hospitals in UK and US such as the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, New York, and St Jude Children?s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. Through these stints, the nurses are able to develop and implement specialised, knowledge-based, evidence-driven nursing programmes and share these best practices with their colleagues. In line with Parkway?s commitment to cultivate a learning culture, Mount Elizabeth Hospital recently opened a new Nurse Training and Resource Centre, which is fully wi-fi enabled and offers adequate IT infrastructure for e-learning. It also has a library with a wide collection of reference books. Dr Lim said, ?Parkway believes in investing in our nurses. We offer them opportunities for professional growth, such as scholarships and overseas attachments, to broaden the nurses? perspectives and deepen their expertise. This strengthens their competence and further empowers them to work alongside doctors in delivering quality patient care, which will raise the overall standards of healthcare and respect for this noble profession.? -End-About Parkway Holdings LimitedParkway Holdings Limited, is one of the region's leading providers of healthcare services, with a network of 16 hospitals with more than 3,400 beds throughout Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, India and China.
