Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd. (President Takuzo Shimizu) received the Excellence Award in the construction/business category at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's 2020 Infrastructure DX Awards for 'Niigata Airport Approach Light (10th Side) Bridge Construction'.

The purpose of the Infrastructure DX Grand Prize is to use data and digital technology in the infrastructure field to horizontally deploy excellent results that lead to the sophistication and efficiency of construction production processes and the improvement of national services as best practices. At the awards ceremony held at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on March 6, 2024, Hokuriku branch manager Tomine and Demura, who was involved in the construction work as a supervising engineer, attended and were presented with a certificate of commendation by the late Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. I did.

This work involves extending the approach light (10 side) bridge on the west side of the runway by 60 meters in order to secure a safe area at the end of the runway at Niigata Airport. Because the construction site is within the airport's restricted area, there were restrictions that required work boats to evacuate during airport operations, and the construction of the bridge piers had to be carried out at night at high altitudes on the sea. In order to ensure process, quality, and safety, we adopted precast concrete for the piers, and utilized BIM/CIM (3D model data) for construction planning.

Precasting of pier concrete makes it possible to manufacture it during the day in a land yard, and bulk installation at the installation site reduces work at high places on the sea at night, reducing the number of skilled workers by a total of 822 people (approximately 46%) compared to the cast-in-place method. In addition to reducing the number of offshore construction days by 52 days (approximately 47%), we were also able to reduce the risk of disasters by reducing nighttime offshore work. In addition, by installing an installation mechanism that matches the dimensions of the pier precast member to the head of the steel pipe pile based on the 3D model, we can ensure the installation accuracy of the pier precast member during night work when guidance using surveying equipment is difficult. At the same time, we aimed to shorten the construction time.

Our company will continue to actively promote the use of precast concrete in order to improve productivity at construction sites.
