Pepco : Delmarva Power Announces Another Peak Savings Day

SALISBURY, Md. (July 13, 2016) - Delmarva Power customers once again will have an opportunity to save money by conserving energy on Thursday, July 14.

An increased demand for electricity throughout the Delmarva Power region is anticipated for July 14. While the region's power supply is expected to be sufficient to meet high demand, Delmarva Power customers can help conserve energy and save money through incentive programs during the Peak Savings Day. Thursday's Peak Savings Day conservation period will be called from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Delmarva Power's Delaware residential and small commercial customers and its Maryland residential customers can receive a bill credit of $1.25 for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of reduced energy use below the customer's average energy use during specific hours on a Peak Savings Day. Customers will receive a phone call indicating the hours to reduce energy use. Customers can also choose to be notified by email or text.

For customers participating in Delmarva Power's Energy Wise Rewards program, a conservation period will be called from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. This means that Delmarva Power will cycle participants' air conditioner compressors off and on for short intervals during these hours. Because the air conditioner fan will continue to run, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their homes, and those who do should experience only a 1- to 3-degree change. It may take up to a half-hour after the event ends for air conditioners to resume normal operations.

Peak Energy Savings Credit and Energy Wise Rewards are voluntary programs. Energy Wise Rewards offers customers a choice of a web-programmable thermostat or an outdoor switch, which the utility installs at no charge.
