RIO DE JANEIRO, April 16 (Reuters) - The management of Brazilian state-run oil firm Petrobras might approve on Wednesday the resumption of operations at a fertilizers plant in Parana state, a workers union said on Tuesday.

Petrobras did not immediately respond to request for comments.

The nitrogenous unit was halted in 2020 and included in Petrobras' then divestment plan under former president Jair Bolsonaro's administration.

The reopening would come as the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been pushing Brazil, a major exporter of agriculture commodities, to reduce its dependence on fertilizers imports.

The plant, known as Fafen, has daily capacity to produce about 2,000 metric tons of urea and 1,300 metric tons of ammonia, workers union FUP said in a statement. (Reporting by Marta Nogueira in Rio de Janeiro; writing by Andre Romani; Editing by Steven Grattan)
