Philips and the Dutch Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland hospital have signed a technology agreement for a new future-proof operating suite and intervention center. The agreement involves state-of-the-art image-guided therapy technology for four modern intervention and operating rooms. These solutions will be integral to Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland's future-proof operating suite and intervention center, a key component of a new, sustainable, and energy-efficient hospital building scheduled to open in 2026. Philips will provide its next-generation image-guided therapy platform, Azurion, which enables minimally invasive and image-guided procedures by integrating X-ray images and information from small surgical devices, supported by advanced software.

The new operating rooms, utilized by various specialists, enable better collaboration to enhance patient care. The center will feature two hybrid operating rooms, where both open and minimally invasive procedures can be performed, with the flexibility to switch during the procedure.

"Image-guided treatments will play an important role in the future of healthcare. They are better for patients because operations are less invasive, reducing recovery time. This also benefits the entire healthcare system, as patients spend less time in the hospital after surgery, alleviating pressure on healthcare services," said Jurgen Mourik, Clinical Physicist at Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland.

"We are preparing for the future with this center, anticipating more innovations in image-guided treatments across specialties. Our specialists already collaborate closely, enabling us to respond swiftly," said Peter-Willem, member of the board of management at Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland.

"I am proud that we can assist Franciscus Gasthuis in realizing this unique intervention and operation center. One focus is to ensure staff in these operating rooms can work properly and safely. All intervention rooms have technology to reduce X-ray usage without compromising image quality, benefiting patients and staff," says Cees Smit, District Leader, West Netherlands at Philips Benelux.
