Secure document exchange with Enterprise Cloud Drive from Pironet NDH in the German BusinessCloud

Cologne, 22 April 2015 - The CANCOM subsidiary Pironet NDH offers its customers a solution for data transfer which conforms with data protection and compliance regulations. With Enterprise Cloud Drive, medium-sized companies obtain an alternative to the solutions of US providers. As is usual with the familiar cloud storage services, the application can be operated via a browser, a native desktop application or by means of an app for iOS and Android. Users can share documents with a defined group of participants such as colleagues, partner companies or suppliers. The data is stored solely in a German cloud environment, the ISO-certified BusinessCloud of the CANCOM Group.

Exchanging data with drag & drop - but securely
"Everyone knows the scenario: You have one or more files and want to exchange these quickly with a colleague or business partner. When they exceed a certain size, most users turn to the familiar cloud storage services which they know from the private sector," explains Khaled Chaar, Managing Director Business Strategy at Pironet NDH. The problem is that with personal information, such as address, date of birth, etc., interchange using Dropbox and the like is not compatible with German data protection law." Anybody who exchanges sensitive corporate information via the cloud storage services of US providers also contravenes the compliance regulations of most companies.

Enterprise Cloud Drive makes duplicated maintenance of user rights superfluous
Technologically, the solution offers components which facilitate management for IT administrators and ultimately data interchange for users. The solution implements, for example, end-to-end rights management: Enterprise Cloud Drive takes over information such as login data and access rights directly from the Active Directory (AD). Rights and user information consequently do not need to be kept and maintained in duplicate. This in turn makes it easier to keep track of the information which is shared. Documents and folders can therefore be supplied directly from their original location (file server or NAS) without having to be copied to another location, something which is customary with other cloud storage services. With the Enterprise Cloud Drive, users thus have the opportunity to share documents without having to modify the established file and authorization structure. The shared data is accessed with 256-bit SSL encryption, including "Perfect Forward Secrecy". With this cryptographic function, the session keys used for data interchange are regenerated at short intervals and lapse after they have been used. Perfect Forward Secrecy thus prevents subsequent decryption of the entire data traffic.

Financial services provider relies on Enterprise Cloud Drive
One of the first users of Enterprise Cloud Drive is a German financial services provider that employs the solution to exchange information which needs to be protected between different group companies.

Steve Janata, Senior Analyst at Crisp Research: "Joint access to digital information within the company and with partners or suppliers across corporate boundaries is an important instrument for an increasing number of companies in order to perform competitively on the market. Business users have a growing interest in solutions which are easy to operate, function independently of the equipment and are at the same time compatible with their compliance provisions and the requirements for information security."
