HARTSVILLE, S.C. (October 17, 2011) -- Progress Energy announced today that Randy Gideon has been promoted to vice president of the company’s H.B. Robinson Nuclear Plant near Hartsville, S.C.

Gideon, currently director of site operations at the Robinson Nuclear Plant, will succeed Bob Duncan as vice president.  Duncan will return to his prior position at the company’s headquarters in Raleigh.

"Randy Gideon has been instrumental in leading numerous improvements already implemented at Robinson, and his advancement to the position of site vice president ensures a continuity of his effective leadership in engaging the work force to accelerate improvements and return the plant to the outstanding performance for which it’s been known through the years,” said Chief Nuclear Officer Jim Scarola.

Gideon joined Progress Energy in May after working for the Exelon nuclear fleet for 17 years. He served as the site vice president at the Quad Cities Generating Station in Cordova, Ill., after serving as the plant manager for six years. Before joining Exelon, Gideon was an officer in the U.S. Navy submarine force for 12 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy.

“I am excited to have this opportunity to lead the great men and women at H.B.
