KLM of the Netherlands, Qantas of Australia and Austrian Airlines have suspended flights over Iran, and Germany's Lufthansa has stopped flying into the country, the carriers separately announced on April 13.

There has been an increase in concerns about a potential attack on Tehran recently. This comes after an Israeli-owned tanker was seized in the Persian Gulf by Iranian Revolutionary Guards naval officers, raising fears of a possible conflict between Tel Aviv and Tehran.

Dutch television channel NOS explains that the decision was made “due to signals that an Iranian attack on Israeli targets was imminent.”

Air carrier KLM said it had suspended flights over both Iran and Israel, with the exception of flights to Tel Aviv and back. “We are closely monitoring the situation,” the Dutch airline noted.

For the same reason, the Austrian carrier Austrian Airlines suspended flights over Iran.

The Australian company Qantas announced a similar decision. It has temporarily re-routed flights from Perth to London "due to the situation in the Middle East", a spokesman for the carrier told SBS World News.

He clarified that the route ran through Iranian airspace, but will now be carried out with a technical landing in Singapore.

Germany's Lufthansa has suspended flights to and from Tehran until April 18.
