Ruukki's offering of sandwich panels has been changed in order to meet the requirements of the amended EN 14509 standard. Changes refer to sandwich panels with a polyurethane core (PU) that will now be replaced by sandwich panels with E-PIR polyisocyanurate core.

By August 8, 2015 all sandwich panel manufacturers have to implement changes made in EN 14509 standard last year. The amended standard is aimed at the increased fire safety of buildings made of sandwich panels. It means that the scope of application of sandwich panels with a standard polyurethane core (PU) will be strongly limited.

As a result of this change, as of 1.7.2015 Ruukki will not manufacture sandwich panels with polyurethane core (PU), but will replace them with sandwich panels with polyisocyanurate core (E-PIR). At the same time we are re-branding our existing sandwich panels with polyisocyanurate core (PIR) as X-PIR. Both E-PIR and X-PIR meet the requirements of the amended European standard PN-EN 14509.

X-PIR panels are targeted for applications in which reaction to fire classification of B-s1, d0 and fire resistance values of ≥ EI30 are required. E-PIR panels are targeted for applications in which reaction to fire classification of B-s2, d0 and fire resistance values of ≤ EI30 are required.

For the most demanding applications Ruukki continues to offer non-combustible mineral wool panels with reaction to fire classification of A2-s1, d0 and fire resistance values up to EI240.
