RTL's streaming business is still not profitable. Last year, the company had to write off 179 million euros, its annual figures show. Nevertheless, RTL is firmly committed to streaming: by 2026, the Group wants to have about 9 million paying subscribers and reach about 750 million euros in streaming revenue.

By the end of 2023, RTL Group had registered 5.5 million paying subscribers for its streaming services RTL+ in Germany and Hungary and 6play in France, up 30.5 percent year-on-year (December 2022: 4.2 million). No more figures are shared about Videoland due to its planned acquisition by DPG Media.

Revenue from streaming rose 72.6 percent to 283 million euros (2022: 164 million euros), thanks to the rapidly growing number of paying subscribers and higher revenue per subscriber.

RTL Group plans to increase its content spending to around 500 million euros and expects to be profitable in streaming by 2026.

Last year, the media group achieved total revenue of 6.9 billion euros and adjusted EBITA of 927 million. In the second half, adjusted EBITA reached 677 million, up 16.3 percent from 2022 (582 million).

RTL Group's TV channel family in Germany increased its lead over main commercial competitor ProSiebenSat1 to 5.8 percentage points, the highest lead in the past 10 years.

RTL Group expects full-year 2024 revenue to increase to around 6.6 billion euros, based on higher revenues from RTL Deutschland and TV producer Fremantle.

In December it was announced that RTL Group will still sell RTL Nederland, for €1.1 billion, to DPG Media. That sale has yet to be approved by the authorities.

DPG Media, active in Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark, is a multimedia company with sales of €1.8 billion by 2022 and brands in news media, television, radio, magazines and online services, including titles such as AD, Nu.nl and de Volkskrant.

The current CEO of RTL Netherlands, Sven Sauvé, will continue to lead RTL. According to him, nothing will change other than "that we have a new shareholder. The name RTL also remains.
