Chinese carmaker SAIC Motor announced on March 8 that it saw wholesale sales of 453,000 vehicles and retail sales of 736,000 vehicles from January to February, a year-on-year increase of 10.8 percent, maintaining its industry-leading position.

Specifically, retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 155,000, a year-on-year growth of 56.5 percent, while overseas market retail sales reached 165,000, up 18.8 percent year-on-year. The proportion of sales from SAIC Motor's own brands exceeded 55 percent of the group's total volume.

From January to February, SAIC Motor experienced rapid growth in NEV sales. Official statistics showed that in the first two months of this year, SAIC Motor's NEVs achieved wholesale sales of 125,000 and retail sales of 155,000, an increase of nearly 60 percent year-on-year. The cumulative sales of the IM LS6 reached 6,171 units this year, making it the sales champion of "Medium and Large Pure Electric SUVs" for four consecutive months. The Roewe D7 DMH's sales continued to climb, maintaining a continuous increase in market share for three consecutive months and ranking in the top three on the monthly sales list for mid-size plug-in hybrid cars in February.

SAIC-GM-Wuling delivered 76,000 NEVs in January and February, a 50-percent increase year-on-year, with the Wuling Xingguang maintaining monthly sales of over 10,000 units. SAIC Volkswagen delivered over 16,000 NEVs during that period, growing by 123.3 percent year-on-year, with the SAIC Volkswagen ID. family continuing to lead the way in the joint venture's pure electric lineup. SAIC-GM delivered over 10,000 NEVs in January and February, a 121.2-percent increase year-on-year.

In Jan-Feb this year, SAIC saw wholesale sales of 121,000 units in overseas markets, with retail sales reaching 165,000, a year-on-year increase of 18.8 percent. The monthly delivery of its MG brand in the European markets has consistently remained above 20,000 units.

At the Geneva International Motor Show held in February, SAIC Motor showcased 10 intelligent and electric new cars, including the global debut of the IM L6 and MG3 HEV, as an example of innovative technology going global and showcasing the innovative strength of Chinese smart manufacturing to the world. In particular, the IM L6, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in around two seconds and has a maximum range exceeding 1,000 km on one charge, has received unanimous praise from overseas media.
